Phoenix Suns vs. San Antonio Spurs MATCH PLAYER STATS – SUMMARY – MARCH 25, 2024
In a thrilling finale, Jeremy Sochan clinched the win for San Antonio with a pivotal three-pointer in the last minute, capping off his standout performance of 26 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, as the Spurs narrowly triumphed over the Phoenix Suns with a 104-102 victory on Monday night. The Spurs felt the absence of rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, who sat out due to a sprained ankle sustained in their previous encounter with the Suns.
Devin Vassell also impressed with 26 points, his excitement palpable as he declared the win significant using the venue’s microphone post-game.
Despite Devin Booker’s commanding 36 points and Kevin Durant’s 29, the Suns, who managed to level the series in San Antonio, couldn’t clinch the win. With the game on the line, both Booker and Durant fell short on their last-second attempts from beyond the arc.
Coach Gregg Popovich provided some hope regarding Wembanyama’s condition, suggesting there’s a fair chance of his return against Utah on Wednesday.
This loss looms large for Phoenix, facing a grueling stretch ahead against playoff-contending teams. They stand precariously in the Western Conference, only just above the play-in tournament threshold by half a game.
San Antonio rebounded from a 32-point deficit in their last encounter with a tighter game this time around, something Phoenix’s coach Frank Vogel predicted, expecting a more tenacious battle.
The Suns deployed Durant and Booker in the decisive quarter after resting them previously, while the Spurs gained momentum on a 16-0 run, transforming a third-quarter nine-point lag into a solid lead early in the fourth.
An enthusiastic start saw San Antonio leap ahead to a quick 13-6 and closing the first quarter with a 29-22 edge. Durant, who remained shotless in the first quarter, found his stride in the second, contributing to a 9-2 run that evened the scores. Phoenix took the quarter, shooting an impressive 60% from the field.
Closing a historically long homestand, the Spurs bagged two wins, which included a game played in Austin, reinforcing their ties with the regional fanbase.
San Antonio aims to dodge a franchise record for the worst season with at least four wins in their remaining ten games.
Looking forward, both teams face matchups on Wednesday, with the Suns heading to Denver and the Spurs visiting Utah.

Phoenix Suns vs. San Antonio Spurs MATCH PLAYER STATS – SUMMARY- MARCH 23, 2024
In a dominant performance at the AT&T Center, Devin Booker spearheaded the Phoenix Suns’ relentless assault over the San Antonio Spurs with an impressive 32-point contribution, opting to rest during the fourth quarter as their 131-106 victory on Saturday night strengthened their playoff ambitions.
Phoenix Suns coach Frank Vogel praised Booker’s exceptional play, “Devin Booker was on top of his game tonight—scoring, creating plays, and truly owning the court. He played splendidly, leading us with a really strong showing.”
The Suns showcased their might, establishing and maintaining a lead that burgeoned to 32 points. Kevin Durant made a significant 25-point addition to the scoreboard for Phoenix, while Bradley Beal’s performance was notable with 13 points coupled with a season-best 12 assists.
Despite a valiant effort from rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, who racked up 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a block in just 21 minutes, the Spurs faced their third consecutive loss, rooted in their recent underwhelming run of eight losses in their past ten games. Teammate Keldon Johnson pitched in with 14 points.
Shooting an impressive 59.6 percent, the Suns registered their eighth consecutive victory on Spurs’ turf.
Acknowledging the prowess of Phoenix’s lead performers, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich commented, “When you face players like Booker, Durant, and a fit Bradley Beal, it becomes a formidable trio to contend with. Our guys put in everything they had, and now we move forward.”
This win marked the Suns’ third in a row, elevating them to a position 13 games above .500 for the first time in the ongoing season. Sitting half a game before the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix (42-29) now has the edge in claiming the sixth definitive playoff spot within the Western Conference.
Booker, reflecting on the significance of this critical phase, said, “Our work throughout the season has brought us here. The timing couldn’t be better as we draw into the thick of the season. It’s crunch time to buckle down and gear up for the postseason.”
Phoenix is set to encounter the Spurs again on Monday, concluding what has been the latter’s longest homestand of the season. However, the Spurs have only managed a solitary win during this period.
The Spurs (15-56), aiming to circumvent the franchise’s historical low of 20-62 set in 1997, need to secure victories in five of their remaining 11 games. Amidst their upcoming fixtures, they face teams like Utah, Memphis, and Detroit who are not currently positioned within the playoff or play-in slots.
Entering the game with underwhelming field shooting and turnovers, the Spurs watched as Booker alone scored 12 points in just the first quarter, contributing significantly to the early lead that Phoenix never relinquished. Booker’s back-to-back 3-pointers in the second half propelled the Suns to claim their most considerable lead at that point, 70-47.
Booker spoke to the collective effort, highlighting the role of team defense and maintaining a non-complacent attitude, “We’re identifying our rhythm and that fuels our offensive execution. We still have room to improve, but we’re advancing steadily.”
Six Suns players hit double figures, in line with their average of 117 points a game. Bol Bol joined Beal with 13 points each.
Durant discussed the offensive dynamic, emphasizing versatility and adaptability, “We keep things fresh by varying our initiators and scorers. We capitalized on our flexibility and synergy on the court tonight, fostering a smooth game flow.”
Wembanyama’s skill was evident even in the face of defeat, as he sunk a 25-foot step-back three, narrowing the Suns’ lead during the first half. He made an impact with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a block at halftime but couldn’t prevent the 65-47 disadvantage at the break.
Regarding the task of containing Wembanyama, Durant acknowledged the collective approach necessary, “You can’t pin him down one-on-one. He’s formidable and presents quite the challenge.”
Booker and Durant sat out the fourth quarter but not before Durant received a token of respect — a bottle of wine from Popovich. Both players carry a history with Popovich, having secured a gold medal under his coaching for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics.
The Spurs, now 5-19 in back-to-backs, including 2-10 on the second night of such matchups, reflect on their recent struggles and look ahead to turn the tides in their favor.
