Philadelphia 76ers vs. Sacramento Kings MATCH PLAYER STATS – SUMMARY – MARCH 25, 2024
In an electrifying Monday night game, Domantas Sabonis spearheaded the Sacramento Kings to a 108-96 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, marking a historic achievement in his NBA career.
Commanding the court, Sabonis recorded an NBA-season high 25th triple-double consisting of 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists. This feat catapulted him into an esteemed group, making him only the fifth player in the league’s history to attain a minimum of 25 triple-doubles in one season, an honor he shares with basketball legends such as Nikola Jokic, Russell Westbrook, Wilt Chamberlain, and Oscar Robertson.
Further adding to his night of milestones, Sabonis surpassed Kevin Love by achieving his 54th successive double-double—distinguishing him for having the longest streak post the 1976-77 NBA and ABA merger. Despite this, Sabonis remains a distance from Wilt Chamberlain’s all-time record of 227 consecutive double-doubles, as noted by Elias Sports Bureau.
Kings coach Mike Brown lauded Sabonis, stating, “Shout out to Domas. What a job… He should be in the MVP discussions with the way that he’s playing.”
Alongside Sabonis, Keegan Murray and De’Aaron Fox were pivotal, netting 23 points each, aiding the Kings in halting a decade-long losing streak against the Sixers. This victory shares the Kings a sixth-place tie in the Western Conference with the Dallas Mavericks, setting the stage for a critical matchup on Tuesday evening.
For the Sixers, Tyrese Maxey stood out with 29 points, leading the team despite being limited to just three points in the second half as he faced intense double-team pressure. Sixers coach Nick Nurse expressed disappointment in the team’s handling of the Kings’ defensive strategy.
Maxey single-handedly dominated the first quarter, scoring an impressive 21 of the 76ers’ 25 points, an achievement not seen in the past three decades for such a significant percentage of a team’s points scored in the opening quarter.
However, Maxey’s solo burst wasn’t enough, with the Sixers lagging at 60-48 by halftime. The Kings maintained their lead comfortably into the second half, with Sabonis’ milestone triple-double being commemorated in a tribute video amidst the game, much to the amazement of teammates and fans alike.
Compounding Philadelphia’s troubles was the absence of player Kelly Oubre due to a left shoulder injury, and an early exit for Buddy Hield with an ankle injury, although X-rays came back negative.
Looking Ahead:
The 76ers are set to face off against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night, while the Kings will go head-to-head with the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night, each team striving for victory on their home court.
