New Orleans Pelicans vs. Detroit Pistons MATCH PLAYER STATS – SUMMARY – MARCH 24, 2024
Zion’s Big Game Leads Pelicans to Win Against Pistons
Hey, young sports fans! 🏀 Have you heard about what happened in Detroit? Well, get ready to be amazed!
Zion Williamson, a super cool and super strong basketball player, had an amazing day helping his team, the New Orleans Pelicans, win 114-101 against a team called the Detroit Pistons. It was this past Sunday, and boy, did Zion play great!
He scored 36 points – that’s a lot of baskets! And guess what? He almost didn’t miss, as he made 13 out of 14 shots. Plus, he played for 36 minutes non-stop, which is like watching two whole episodes of your favorite show back to back without getting up from the couch!
When Zion threw the ball, it was like magic – swoosh – through the hoop it went, again and again. He also caught seven missed shots by others (that’s called rebounds), and helped his teammates score six times. And he did this all so well that when he was done playing, everyone in the stadium clapped their hands for him!
The coach of his team, a smart man named Willie Green, said, “We saw Zion was playing super great, and we decided to keep letting him play.” He was like a basketball superhero that day.
You won’t believe it, but Zion did something that only two other guys did in the last 20 years. He scored 35 points without even making a long, long shot from behind the arc called a 3-pointer. He’s in superstar company with Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard who did it before him.
Two days before this game, Zion only scored four points, but he wasn’t sad about it. He said, “I know my friends and coach believe in me. That game wasn’t my best, but today, I just wanted to win with my team.” And they did!
Another Pelicans player, CJ McCollum, also had a great game scoring 23 points. The Pelicans are doing really great—they’ve won lots of games recently!
The Pistons team had to play without most of their usual starting players because they were hurt or sick, which was a big challenge for them.
For the Pistons, two guys named Chimezu Metu and Malachi Flynn each made 17 points, and another guy, Jaden Ivey, added 16 points. One of the Pistons, Buddy Boeheim, had his best game, scoring 13 points.
Even though the Pistons didn’t have all their strong players and tried their best, they still lost. Now they hope to win more games and not lose too many by the season’s end.
During the game, the Pistons had a tough time making baskets, especially in the first quarter where they only scored 10 points. That’s less than what some kids score in their Saturday morning games!
Later, the coach for the Pistons, Monty Williams, said, “Our team believed they could play well against the Pelicans, and they really tried. But Zion was playing so well; he was hard to stop.”
What happens next? The Pelicans have another game against a team called the Oklahoma City Thunder. For the Pistons, they will play a game in New York against the Knicks.
