Golden State Warriors Seize the Third Quarter, Toppling Memphis Grizzlies in a High-Energy Matchup

In a game of intense rallies and fervent defense, the Golden State Warriors sent out a clear message right from halftime – own the third quarter and never stop the defensive grind. They re-entered the game with such ferocity that momentum seemed to shift immediately in their favor.

The team synergy was palpable – they exchanged passes effortlessly and jealously guarded possession.

Amidst this concerted effort, Stephen Curry stood out with his fourth successful three-pointer, a landmark moment marking his fifth season with a staggering 300 3-pointers, an NBA record. This achievement accompanied his 14-point contribution to the Warriors’ commanding victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, 137-116, on a Wednesday night showdown.

Chris Paul, with a blend of admiration and predictability, said of Curry, “He’s going to do it again next year. I’m not surprised,” lauding his effortless shooting and meticulous self-care.

The scoreboard glowed for not just Curry, but also for Jonathan Kuminga, who put up an impressive 26 points, with Andrew Wiggins not far behind at 22 points and 10 rebounds. Klay Thompson chipped in productively with 23 points off the bench. Meanwhile, Paul orchestrated the movements with a season-topping 14 assists, matching the reserve-assist record for the season, all contributing to the Warriors’ 30th game achieving at least 30 assists.

Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Warriors, found the game particularly delightful viewing, earmarking Paul’s performance as exceptional, denoting it “a clinic.” The season had not before seen an assist-to-turnover ratio like the nights’ – 43 assists to a mere six turnovers.

Paul credited his lifelong relationship with the game, having played since he was four, alongside the mentorship of excellent coaches that honed his talent for not only finding the open player but predicting the flow of the game.

The Grizzlies, despite the loss, saw tremendous energy from rookie GG Jackson II who hit 35 points and Jaren Jackson Jr. contributing 28. Santi Aldama, particularly fiery in the second quarter, racked up 15 of his 27 points, leading to a quick succession of three-pointers that narrowed the gap to just two points before halftime. However, the Warriors responded swiftly with their signature ten-point surge to enter halftime with a 68-58 lead, a performance reminiscent of their historic 24-0 run back on May 1, 2021.

Tensions also rode high, as they often do when these two competitive teams clash. At one point, a technical pause saw Draymond Green and Desmond Bane in a brief scuffle after Green and Aldama had an on-court altercation. Temperatures cooled and the situation was de-escalated with handshakes once play resumed.

Post-skirmish, Kerr and Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins confirmed there were no hard feelings, citing the gritty and competitive nature of games between these two teams.

The Warriors’ Kuminga demonstrated his evolving prowess, sinking five of his six initial shots and concluding the game with a near-perfect 12-of-17 shooting streak. Green, despite concerns over potential back issues, started strong with a double-double performance—10 points, 12 rebounds, plus seven assists.

Back in the Chase Center, the Warriors were on a mission to balance their home record, marked by a recent loss to the Knicks. They did not disappoint, achieving this goal, now celebrating four successive triumphs and 10 out of twelve wins against Memphis on their home turf. The Grizzlies did show energy from beyond the arc, but fell short, shooting at 18 for 49 on three-pointers by the end of the night.

Kuminga has been steadily pacing his game, scoring double digits consecutively in the last eight games, and achieving 20 points or more in nine out of the past 12 matchups.

In a demonstration of gritty defense, Warriors rookie Brandin Podziemski stood out as he drew his 35th charge of the season, leading the NBA in this statistic.

The Warriors’ spectacle of teamwork and defense was a clinic in basketball finesse, dazzling their fans and demonstrating the full force of their championship pedigree.
